The following annexes accompany the paper “Driving the System Change Needed to End Loss and Damage From Climate Change”. They provide a more detailed unpacking of what is needed to end ecological overshoot and address social shortfalls across the nine planetary boundaries and 12 essential dimensions set out in the social foundation of the Doughnut of Social and Planetary Boundaries.

In “Annex I: Ending ecological overshoot”, we unpack the extent of the remaining safe operating space or overshoot for each of the nine planetary boundaries based upon the indicators of overshoot set out by the Doughnut of Social and Planetary Boundaries. We then provide additional context to illuminate the implications and suggest what is needed to end or avoid overshoot.  

In “Annex II: Ending social shortfalls”, we unpack the extent of the social shortfall, provide additional context to illuminate the implications and suggest what is needed to end the social shortfall, for each of the 12 essential dimensions set out in the social foundation of the Doughnut of Social and Planetary Boundaries.
