WHAT HAPPENED ON LOSS AND DAMAGE AT THE 2025 JUNE CLIMATE MEETINGS?

Image credit: The global climate justice movement holds an action calling for Loss and Damage finance, an ambitious outcome of the third WIM review and for the COP 30 presidency to make Loss and Damage a priority at COP 30 in Belém, Brazil (Teo Ormond-Skeaping / Loss and Damage Collaboration).

This brief details what happened on Loss and Damage during the sixty-second session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 62) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Paris Agreement and Kyoto Protocol, which took place from 16th to 26th of June in Bonn, Germany. The following issues are covered:

The third review of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage (WIM);

The Brazilian COP 30 Presidency’s approach to Loss and Damage;

The Santiago Network for Loss and Damage (SNLD);
‍
Stakeholder consultation on draft voluntary guidelines for loss and damage information to inform the preparation of the Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs);

Baku to Belém Roadmap to 1.3T and Loss and Damage; and;
‍
Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Loss and Damage.
